A fusion of public art, technology, and play, Windows Vistas invites passersby to become the artists. Viewers use a mobile webapp to create and color prototypical window panes, which the AI then transforms into stunning, ever-evolving stained glass windows.

Windows Vistas is powered by Stable Diffusion, a new deep learning model which can generate images guided by text descriptions. The model used in the installation was fine-tuned on pictures of stained glass windows. The AI uses the viewer-generated sketches as a starting point to create stained glass projected on the street-facing windows. Each output is fed back into the system after generation, creating living stained glass windows.

Windows Vistas is a collaboration with Agency Art. It was open form dusk till dawn at 3801 W Montrose in Chicago from January 21st through February 17 2023.
